There can be a number of ways to improve your eye health which includes enough rest, exercising your eyes and more importantly following a healthy and nutritious diet. 1. Leafy vegetables

Green vegetables contain carotenoids and are rich in Vitamin A that helps in maintaining a healthy retina. Moreover, green vegetables are rich in antioxidants that protect the eyes from the harmful rays of the sun and reduce the photo stress recovery time. You can add spinach, broccoli or kale to your child’s diet that will help him to have a better sight.

2. Fruits

Fruits like oranges and lemons are rich in vitamin C that keeps eyes healthy. These fruits reduce the risk of cataract and in case your child is experiencing acute loss of vision, these fruits can prove to be of great help and prevent such situations.

Cashew, almonds, flax seeds or chia seeds are not only tasty but these can majorly help your child’s eyes from any eyesight issues. You can add a tablespoon of nuts in your morning breakfast or can take it as a mid-day snack. These are rich in Vitamin A and zinc and daily consumption of these can do wonders for your eyes.

4. Eggs

Eggs are rich in Vitamins, proteins and a special carotenoid called lutein, which prevents blindness and macular degeneration.  In fact, eggs carry an abundance of nutrients which are not only beneficial to your eyes but for the rest of your body. You can cook your child an omelette or boiled eggs or soup out of them. Make sure to include the yolk as well as this yellow part is the most nutritious portion.

5. Legumes

Legumes are rich in bioflavonoids and zinc which prevents the retina from getting damaged and promotes healthy eyesight. You can add kidney beans, lentils and black eyes peas to your child’s diet. Make sure you take your child for an eyesight check up on a regular basis.

Whole grains are rich in zinc which is vital for healthy eyes.  Whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat will provide the required amount of zinc and keep the eyes healthy. Apart from this, these are also rich in Vitamin E and niacin. Add more whole grains to your child’s diet instead of plain rice, pasta and white bread.

7. Fish Oil

Fish oil is a rich source of DHA that is basically found in our eye’s retina. You can add a slice of salmon, mackeral, tuna to your child’s diet or you can also find fish oil supplements for children in the nearby pharmacy shop. Low levels of DHA can disturb your child’s sight as this will apparently cause dry eye symptoms.

8. Carrots

Carrots contain beta-carotene which is a type of Vitamin A that is found in plants and which is a great remedy to improve your child’s sight. You can add some slices of carrot to your regular salads or soup and pastas.

9. Avocados

Avocados contain more lutein in comparison to any other fruit or vegetable. It is also beneficial in reducing the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. You can add some slices of it in a sandwich which will provide your child Vitamin E and healthy fats for better eyesight.

Capsicum which is available in almost every colour that is red, yellow or green consists of Vitamin A which helps to prevent our eyes from any eye disease or infection. You can also have it raw or add some strips of it in a fried meal.

11. Blueberries

Blueberries consist of a group of compounds called anthocyanosides which will naturally attach to the retina and improve your night vision. Since you cannot find blueberries the entire year, you can take them in the form of a capsule or a tablet. Make it your aim to consume these berries up to 600mg per day and remember that it will take at least 2 months to notice the difference.
