Coronavirus is a family of viruses characterized to cause respiratory infections. COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus which has caused pandemic situations worldwide. It is a viral infection that has flu-like symptoms. It mainly attacks the lower respiratory airway of our body. Lungs are affected severely in the later stage of infection. It spread easily through droplets among people.

Signs and Symptoms of Coronavirus

 Coronavirus has the following symptoms :

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath

Most of the symptoms are similar to any other viral infection responsible to cause respiratory infections such as cold or flu. But in the case of coronavirus, these symptoms are serious in nature and this seriousness is likely to be seen in people who are sick or have any health issue.

Coronavirus is highly contagious in nature. Through droplet infection, it can be spread from one person to another. Infected people should not cough or sneeze without covering their nose and mouth in order to prevent it’s spread to others. During sneezing or coughing tiny infectious droplets may land upon the nearby uninfected person. Less often it is to be known as foodborne disease. Rather people will be infected if they touch an infected droplet on a surface and then touch their own face, mouth or eyes.

Coronavirus is Dangerous for Children

Children can get an infection from someone they lived with or because of any family member. In children, the coronavirus often seems to cause more infections when compared to adults, similar to old age people.

Treatment of Coronavirus

In many people including children, no serious illness is seen. These mild infections can easily be treated by the doctor by prescribing fluids and rest. Hospitalization is required for severely ill patients who have difficulty breathing and require mechanical oxygen along with other treatments. Doctors and researchers are searching for a vaccine and medication to cure the coronavirus. The virus cannot be treated with antibiotics thus antibiotic is of no use. While the medicines used in treating flu also showed no improvement in the condition of the patient suffering from coronavirus therefore, a medicine used to treat flu is also of no use.

What Teachers and Childcare Providers do to Prevent Coronavirus?

The best way to protect one from the virus is to prevent the spread of the virus. Following are some of the measures to take in order to prevent COVID-19 spread :

  • Wash hands frequently and properly. It is recommended to wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. The use of sanitizer which has about 60% alcohol content in it is advised.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth specifically when hands are not washed.

A number of schools and childcare centers have been shut down due to pandemic COVID-19. But if that does not mean children require no more care. They also need to be cautious and:

  • Frequent cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces and the objects with which children touch and play is required.
  • People who are sick should avoid meeting other healthy people. If any child gets sick it is important to isolate him from other children to keep others safe. The sick child should be kept away until they are being picked up. It is better to encourage families to keep their kids at home rather than making them go to such childcare centers until they are sick.
  • Covering the mouth and nose with a tissue that would be disposed of, while sneezing and coughing are mandatory. In case, the tissue is not available the elbow should be used to cover the mouth and nose area. It is important to ensure that children have no access to the disposed of tissue or touch the dustbin.
  • Wearing of face mask is not recommended by experts until and unless you are not healthy. The mask is important to be worn by the health workers or the people who are ill.


By following measures, Coronavirus spread can be minimized and people can lead a normal life. The people around the world need to be aware of the way Coronavirus spread and prevent those ways by simple measures. If everyone plays their crucial role, the world will fight back coronavirus with more ease.
