Parents can choose from either regular or organic formulas. Both America and Europe haveorganic baby formulas, but which one has the better organic formula? This is what we discuss in this article. We also review a popular organic formula called Lebenswert.

What’s the Difference between Organic Formula in Europe and the U.S.?

Formulas made in Europe have stricter guidelines for their formulas, whereas in the U.S., we have more lenient regulations on what can be added to our formulas. In order for a formula to beconsidered organic in Europe, they have to be certified.

Certification in the EU entails a strenuous process: they have to contain no GMOs, no added hormones or steroids, only use antibiotics to keep animals healthy, and a minimum of 95% of organic ingredients, cows, and goats are fed a 100% organic diet with no synthetic additives and no preservatives or synthetics are added to the formula. Every can of formula goes through multiple quality checks for every step of the process.

With American formula, the FDA allows formula manufacturing companies to use chemical processes, fillers, and unnatural preservatives as main ingredients. Also, there are very few American formulas that have been certified by the USDA. With the few organic options for parents, they are subjected to compromise with filler ingredients such as sucrose (sugars) and soy added to many of these organic options. Lastly, European formula comes in stages to meet the baby’s nutritional needs at each stage of development. American formula is a “one size fits all stages” of a baby’s development.
